Wappen von Rechtenstein

Official blazon

(de) In Silber ein durchgehendes rotes Kreuz, belegt mit einem goldenen Herzschild, darin drei gestürzte schwarze Wolfsangeln übereinander.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 3, 1957.

The red cross is the symbol of St. George, the local patron saint. The small escutcheon shows the arms of the Counts of Stain zum Rechtenstein, who ruled the village for several centuries.Already in the 1930s the village had adopted on its seal a coat of arms showing a black cross with the escutcheon. The black cross was the symbol of the Teutonic Knights. As the village had not been a possession of the Order (the arms were most likely derived from the personal arms of a member of the family, who was also a Teutonic Knight), it was later changed into a red cross.
