WEVELINGHOVEN
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Rhein-Kreis Neuss (until 1974 Grevenbroich)
Incorporated into : 1975 Grevenbroich
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1938 and are based on the oldest seal of the town, known since 1443. The seal showed the crest of the Von Wevelinghoven family, held by two lions. The crest was a swan on a helmet. The second seal also shows the roses, which were scattered all over the seal. In the arms the lions are removed and the three roses were added.
Until 1939 the city used a seal with the complete arms of the Wevelinghoven family, in red two bars of silver, but these arms were never officially granted.
