Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 6, 1971.
The black cross is the arms of the State of Fulda, as the area historically belonged to the diocese of Fulda. The key and swort are the symbols of the patron saint of the Somborn parish church, St. Peter and St. Paul. The sword is also a symbol of justice and hence for the name of the municipality (Gericht=court).
The municipality used after the merger the arms below, which were not widely used and already replaced a year later with proper arms:
