Wappen von Stadtprozelten

Official blazon

In Silber eine rote Burg mit Torturm und blauen Dächern, über dem Tor der goldene Buchstabe B; beiderseits des Turmhelms die strahlende, gesichtete goldene Sonne und ein gesichteter goldener Halbmond.

Origin/meaning

The present arms are derived from a 16th century seal. The castle shown is probably the castle of the German Order in the city. The letter B stands for Brodselden, the old name of the city. The origin of the sun and crescent are not known, they may be of religious origin, or they may be old village symbols. The image has always been used on seals, in which it was not placed on a shield. On a glass in the local city hall, however, real arms are painted. The glass dates from around 1600 and shows a city wall with the letter B on it. Above the wall the wheel of Mainz was placed. The city came into possession of Mainz in 1484. In the present arms the B is added to the image of the seal, the colours are taken from the glass.
