Origin/meaning
The arms are known from the oldest seal of Rain, known from 1305, but probably dating from the end of the 13th century. The lion is taken from the lion of the Pfalz, the lower part is the arms of Bayern. This combination of lion and diamonds is rather unique. The arms changed regularly during the centuries, mostly in the shape of the head and the presence of a crown. The present arms are based on the roll of arms of Hupp, made in the last decade of the 19th century. This is an identical image of the old seal.
