ACHIM
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Verden
Additions : 1972 Baden, Bierden, Bollen, Embsen, Uesen, Uphusen
Official blazon
(de) Gespalten von Rot und Silber, vorne ein aufrechter silberner Kreuzbartschlüssel mit zugewendetem Bart, hinten eine aus dem Schildrand wachsende schwarze Bärentatze.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on September 5, 1930 and confirmed in 1948.
The key is derived from the arms of the Diocese of Bremen, as the Bishops of Bremen ruled the area until 1648 when it became a Swedish possession.
The bear claw is taken from the arms of the Clüver family, who from the 15th century until 1648 acted as governors (Gogräfen) and judges in Achim.
