Selected collector's items from Germany:

LANDAU IN DER PFALZ (LD)

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
Incorporated into : 1970 Südliche Weinstrasse

Wappen von Landau in der Pfalz (kreis)

Official blazon

(de)

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1955.

The arms are a combination of the lion of the Pfalz, the cross of Speyer, grapes as a symbol for the wine-growing in the area and the escutcheon with the arms of the Counts of Leiningen-Dagsburg-Landeck, who founded in 1260 the city of Landau. Both the Lords of the Pfalz and the Monastery of Speyer owned large parts of the district.

The white bar with the grapes symbolises the Weinstrasse, that runs through the district.
