Origin/meaningThe arms were officially granted on June 12, 2012, but is much older. The original seal from the 13th century shows an oak tree behind a small shield of Sachsen and a helmet. At some point in history the helmet was changed into an acorn. The oak tree refers to the fact that the town probably was built in an area with many oak forests. Until 1815 the city was part of Sachsen, hence the small shield of Sachsen.
