WERNBORN
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Hochtaunuskreis (until 1975 Usingen)
Incorporated into : 1971 Usingen
German | In Gold auf grünem Boden ein springendes rotes Pferd.
Origin/meaningThe horse appeared for the first time on the seal of the village from 1816. The initial seal showed the horse facing (heraldic) left, all later seals and images show the horse facing (heraldic) right. It is not clear why a horse was taken as arms for the town, older seals are not known. The arms were never granted though.
In 2016 a newspaper article mentioned a local discussion whether the horse should have a tongue or not. No conclusion was drawn, but in any case, the description only mentions a horse, which means all designs showing a red jumping horse are correct, regardless the details of the horse.
