Origin/meaning

The origin or meaning of these arms are not very well known. The axe is mosty likely a symbol for forestry, or, as being described as a carpenter's (Zimmermann) axe, also be a canting symbol.

In any case the axe has already been known as the symbol of the village since 1684 when it was mentioned in a local forestry register. The oldest remaining seal of Frauenzimmer dates from 1723 and also clearly shows the axe.

The colours were determined by the State Archives in 1918, but without reference to their meaning.
