Origin/meaning
The arms show a canting rose, which may be derived from the arms of the Counts of Wasserburg, who ruled the town until 1247. The oldest known seal of the city dates from 1374 and already shows the rose. All later images and seals show the rose unchanged. The only exception is an image of the roll of arms by Apian (around 1568), where the arms show a bordure around the rose.
