Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 4, 1975.
The Germanic shield and banners are derived from the 15th century seal of the Overledingerland territory. The seals showed a Germanic warrior, holding a shield and three banners. The blue wavy bar symbolises the Ems and Leda rivers that run through the municipality. The star in the middle of the shield has 12 points, one for each of the villages in the municipality.
