LORSCH

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Bergstrasse

Wappen von Lorsch/Arms (crest) of Lorsch
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1923 and show in the upper half the main entrance of the Imperial Abbey in Lorsch. The lower half shows a cross, also as a symbol for the Abbey, which played a major role in the local history. The lower left corner shows the striped lion of Hessen, as the town belongs to Hessen since the early 19th century.

The only known historical seal of the town dates from the 17th century, but is heavily damaged. It is not clear what the seal showed. In the 19th century the town used a seal with only the lion of Hesen.

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925
