English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 21, 1973.
The three-topped mountain in the base is a canting element, -hövel, or hill, taken from the previous arms. The entrance of a mine and the tools in the hill symbolise the importance of mining in the area since the 16th century. The hazel branch in the upper part of the arms is derived from the arms of Amt Hasselinghausen.
Postal cancellation 1994 |
From 1960-1973 the municipality used the arms of Niedersprockhövel.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
