Origin/meaning

The arms were oficially granted on July 5, 1977.

Heitersheim became a possession of the Knights of St.John in 1297 and remained so until 1795. The town never used own seals, but in 1895 adopted arms showing in the upper half the cross of the Knights of St. John and in the lower half a star and two tree branches (see below).

The arms of 1895

The meaning of the star and the branches is not known.

The first official arms (below) were granted on June 20, 1961 and were based on the arms of 1895, but the star and branches were replaced by two letters H, for the town itself.

After the merger in 1971 the town wanted to remove the letters and applied for the whole cross of the Knights of St, John. These arms were finally granted on July 5, 1977.
