Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1993, but have been used by the city since the early 15th century. The lion is the symbol of the Counts of Schwarzberg, who granted the city rights and ruled the city until 1920. In the 1920s the arms have been shown in different colours and versions, see below.
