In Rot ein silbernes Mühlrad. Im silbernen Schildhaupt ein rotes Mühleisen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 31, 1955, but are much older.

Mölln received city rights around 1224, and the oldest seal of the city dates from the same time. It showed already a water mill wheel, which is a canting symbol (Mühle=mill). Later the wheel was placed in a shield and in the 17th century the wheel iron was shown above the shield. From 1876 the iron was placed in a chief above the wheel.

Until 1955 the arms were mainly shown with a black mill-iron, as can be seen below.
