Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 23, 1974.
Fifteen out of Seventeen municipalities in the Verbandsgemeinde historically were part of Luxembourg. Thirteen of these were ruled by the Abbey of Echternach. The cross is taken from the seal of the Abbey. The wavy bend symbolises the Sauer river, which forms the current border with Luxembourg.
