Origin/meaning

The County Falkenstein was a small county located in the present-day German state of Rheinland-Pfalz. It existed as an independent territory until 1794 when it was incorporated in the French Empire.

The arms show a wheel, taken from the arms of the Counts of Bolanden-Falkenstein (rulers 1233-1418) and have been used for the territory ever since.
