WIXHAUSEN
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Darmstadt-Dieburg (until 1973 Darmstadt)
Incorporated into : 1977 Darmstadt
Official blazon
In Gold ein wachsender Löwe, mit der rechten Pranke den blauen Schaft einer von Silber und Rot gevierten Fahne umklammernd.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on My 18, 1962.
The town historically belonged to the State of Würzburg from 1403 until the 19th century. The Bishops gave the area in loan o the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. The seals of the town, known since 1625, all showed a bishop on a throne, holding a staff and a book.
In the Hessisches Ortswappenbuch from 1956 the arms below were proposed. These arms simply show the crosier as a symbol of the bishops. In 1962, however, the above arms were granted. These are a combination of the banner, taken from the arms of the State of Würzburg, combined with the lion of Katzenelnbogen.
