The arms were granted on July 19, 1985.
The first quarter shows the black cross of the State of Fulda, which had large possessions nad influence in the villages of Langendorf, Machtilshausen and Elfershausen.
The second quarter shows the arms of the Lords of Trimberg, which were of importance in Trimberg and Engenthal.
The third quarter is based on the arms of the Lords von Erthal, which were mainly important for Elfershausen itself. Their arms already appeared in the previous arms of the municipality, see below.
The fourth quarter shows the points of Franken (Fränkische Rechen), a symbol for the region, as well as for the fact that the area historically belonged to the State of Würzburg. In the previous arms this was symbolised by using the banner of Würzburg.
