Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 16, 1910, but the exact origins are not known.

The oldest seal of the town dates from the early 18^th century and shows St. John Baptist, the patron saint of the town as well as a small shield with the letters V and L. The meaning of the letters is unknown. In a later seal from the 19^th century the letters were replaced by a sun. There are no old seals with the present arms or the symbols.
