THUM

State : Sachsen
District (Kreis) : Erzgebirgskreis (until 208 Mittlerer Erzgebirgskreis)
Additions : 1999 Herold, Jahnsbach

Wappen von Thum (Erzgebirge)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 2000.

The arms show the old arms of Thum in the base. The other quarters refer to the former mining (miner's tools), the village of Herold (a canting herald) and Jahnsbach (as a local large tree in the village was used as a place for justice).

The previous arms show a canting tower (Thurm). The tower appeared in the 19th century seal of the city. Older seals show a rising female figure, holding hammer and cross. This composition can also be seen as city arms on a map from 1665.

Hupp showed the arms in the 1920s in a slightly different composition, see below.
