Wappen von Moringen

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Moringen received city rights at the end of the 13th century.

The oldest seal is known since 1362 and shows a castle. In the gate of the castle appeared a helmet with two keys, the crest of the Lords of Rostorp, who at the time ruled the city. In 1379 the city was acquired by the Dukes of Göttingen from the Welfen dynasty. Ever since the seals and arms show the lion of the Welfen in the gate of the castle.
