RANTZAU

State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Plön
Amt : Amt Großer Plöner See (until 2007 Plön-Land)

Wappen von Rantzau

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 9, 1991.

The divided shield of silver and red is taken from the arms of the Von Rantzau family, one of the most influential noble families in the Holstein County. The helmet, is also taken from the crest of the family, and shown as a medieval helmet to indicate the long history of the family and the village. The family was first mentioned in 1226 and held the estate until the 18th century. The flower, Primula eliator is added as a symbol for the protected area in the Kosautal, known for it's rare flora. The five individual flowers symbolise the five villages in the municipality.
