Böblingen received city rights in the middle of the 13<sup>th</sup> century. The oldest known seals of the city date from around 1300 and shows already the banner (Gonfanon) of the Counts of [[Tübingen]], who at the time owned the city. The arms remained the same throughout the centuries, even though the city became part of Württemberg in 1357.
