Wappen von Bad Kötzting

Official blazon

  • (de) In Silber auf grünem Boden ein buschiger grüner Baum.

Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of the town, dating from 1409, already shows the upper part of a tree of unknown species. In 1438 the seal showed a proper tree and in 1574 the seal showed a tree with two trunks. The meaning may be canting, from Kosten, an old word meaning the upper part of a tree. In the 17th century the tree was placed on a ground. In the 19th century the tree was shown as a chestnut or apple tree, but the official description does not mention any species.
