Origin/meaning

Borgholz received city rights in the early 14th century. The oldest seal dates from 1446 and shows the Bishop of Paderborn in a gate. The city wat the time belonged to the State of Paderborn. In the 17th century the fleur-de-lis appears on the seals. The fleur-de-lis was the symbol used by the State of Paderbron. Initially the arms showed three lilies.

On July 18, 1908 the above arms were officially granted by King Wilhelm II, as a single fleur-de-lis in the colours of the State of Paderborn.
