Wappen von Coppenbrügge/Arms (crest) of Coppenbrügge
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

Coppenbrügge received city rights in 1618 from the Counts of Gleichen, but the town never developed into a real city. The arms probably date from the same time and are first seen on a 17th century seal. The arms most likely are based on the crest of the Counts of Spiegelberg, who ruled the area from 1300-1537. Their crest showed a deer antler. The barrel in the present arms is most likely a misinterpretation of the helmet.

Hupp explained the helmet in the late 19th century as a symbol for the local brewing industry.

Wappen von Coppenbrügge/Coat of arms (crest) of Coppenbrügge

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
