In Silber ein in Felle gekleideter bärtiger Mann, auf dem linken Arm ein rotes Buch, auf dem ein silbernes Lamm ruht, mit der Rechten auf das Lamm zeigend; zu seinen Füßen ein kleiner blauer Schild, darin ein goldener Löwe.

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from 1562. The arms show the local patron saint, St. John Baptist, and a small shield with the arms of the Counts of Schwarzburg, who ruled the town from medieval times until 1918.
