HERRIEDEN

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Ansbach (until 1973 Feuchtwangen)
Additions: 1972 Elbersroth, Heuberg, Hohenberg, Lammelbach, Rauenzell, Roth, Stadel; 1972 Neunstetten

Wappen von Herrieden/Arms (crest) of Herrieden
Official blazon
German In Rot ein hockender goldener Hase, der einen aufrechten silbernen Bischofsstab hält.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The oldest known seal of the city, dating from around 1350, already shows already the hare and crosier. The town had grown around the Herrieden Abbey, hence the crosier. The old name of the Abbey was Hasenried, and the hare is thus a canting element (Hase). The crosier also indicates the fact that the city was a possession of the Bishops of Eichstätt until 1803.

Siegel von Herrieden

The municipal stamp shown in 1892
Wappen von Herrieden/Coat of arms (crest) of Herrieden
