Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms most likely date from the end of the 17th century when the city was founded in 1654 by Johann Georg I of Sachsen. The small shield indicate the importance of mining for the city.
Hupp showed the arms in different colours in the 1920s, see image below right.
