KOSTHEIM

State : Hessen
Incorporated into : 1913 Mainz, since 1945 Wiesbaden

Kostheim2.jpg

Origin/meaning

The arms show a special tool to grab trees. The image shows the arms as used presently by the borough of Wiesbaden. The image below shows the proposal as made in 1956.
Historically several tree trunks were connected to each other to form one or more large rafts to ship them down the river Main up to Kostheim where a paper manufacturing factory still exists. The men on the rafts used the grippers to hold and move the tree trunks.
