The red and silver are the colours of the County of Vianden, to which the village belonged in medieval times. The oak branch refers to the former importance of forestry and oak trees for the village. Timber and wood as well as the production of tanning liquid were important for the village. The four acorns refer to the hamlets of Oberpierscheid, Philippsweiler, Röllersdorf and Luppertsseifen in the municipality, as well as to the the four larger farms.
