OVERATH
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis
Additions : 1975 Bensberg, Hohkeppel, Rösrath
Official blazon
Geteilt von Silber und Blau, oben ein schreitender, doppelschwänziger, blau gekrönter, blau bewehrter roter Löwe, unten eine schwebende goldene Glocke.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on March 5, 1938.
The arms were newly designed as no older seals or arms were known. The upper part of the arms show the lion of Berg, as the area historically belonged to the County (later Duchy) of Berg. The lower part shows a bell, as the bell-making was of major importance for the town in the 14th-16th century.
