PREETZ

State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Plön

Wappen von Preetz
Official blazon
German

Durch einen goldenen Wellenbalken geteilt von Blau und Rot. Oben ein silberner Fisch, unten das silberne holsteinische Nesselblatt.

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 9, 1979.

Preetz received city rights in 1870 and the above arms were adopted a little later and confirmed in 1979. The wavy bar is a canting element, the name is derived from the Slav words for 'on the river'. The perch in the upper half symbolises the importance of fishing. The lower half of the arms shows the arms of the Counts of Holstein, as the area historically was ruled by these counts.

Until 1979 the lower half showed a small shield within the 'neselblatt' of Holstein, see images below.
