Origin/meaning

Rauschenberg became a city in 1266 and the oldest seal dates from the same time. As the city was a possession of the Counts of Ziegenhain, the seal showed a knight, holding a small shield with the present arms. These are the oldest arms of the Counts of Ziegenhain. Later seals only show this shield, sometimes with the typical goat-headed eagle (see Ziegenhain) as a crest.
