The arms were granted on March 13, 1995.
The arms were granted on March 13, 1995.


The right half of the arms shows the bends of the Counts of Schönberg, as a large part of the district was part of the County of Schönberg. The eagle in the left half is the Imperial eagle and symbolises the fact that a large part of the area belonged to the Pleissenland, an Imperial estate. The colours are the imperial colours, but at the same time the colours of the County of Meissen. A part of the district historically belonged to Meissen.
