Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on March 13, 1995.
The right half of the arms shows the bends of the Counts of Schönberg, as a large part of the district was part of the County of Schönberg. The eagle in the left half is the Imperial eagle and symbolises the fact that a large part of the area belonged to the Pleissenland, an Imperial estate. The colours are the imperial colours, but at the same time the colours of the County of Meissen. A part of the district historically belonged to Meissen.
Literature: Linder and Olzog, 1996.
