Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted in 1903 and 1969 but are based on the oldest seal of the town, dating from the 14th century.

All later seals have shown a miner, as the town historically was a typical mining town. The shape of the miner has differed widely during the centuries. The present image is based directly on the oldest seal. The colours are chosen arbitrarily.
