Countess Adelhied von Nassau built around 1350 the local castle, which became the seat of the Tringenstein district of the County Nassau. The oldest seal dates already from 1491 and shows a demi-lion, derived from the lion of [[Nassau]]. The arms are thus derived from this old seal.
