Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 25, 1951.

The arms are a combination of the three historical territories from which the district was formed. The cross is the cross of the State of Trier, the lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of Blankenheim-Gerolstein. The escutcheon is the arms of the Counts of Daun.
