Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 6, 1938.
The arms show a figure on a horse, which has not adequately been explained. It is not the patron saint of the city, nor is it a canting symbol. It is said to be a vassal of the counts of Kleve, who granted the village city rights before 1275. The earliest known seal, dating from 1316, already showed the same image. It never really changed, except that in the last century the falcon was often not shown.
