Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 15, 1951.

The arms show the arms of the Barons of Croy-Renty, that can also be found in many other Belgian arms. The Estate of Malderen became a possession of the Baron of Fay in 1662, whose daughter married François-Albert de Croy. Their daughter married Henri von Wild und Rheingrave, Count of Salm-Kyrbourg. The Estate remained in the Salm family until 1792.

The only known seal of Malderen dates from 1748 and shows two shields. The first shows the arms of the Croy-Renty family, the second the arms of Wild und Rheingrave. The municipality, however, adopted only the first arms as the municipal arms in 1951.

Literature: Servais, 1955
