The arms are a combination of two shields, each with the arms of an important family. The left shield is the arms of the Prawdzic family, the right one of the Ostoja family. The town was founded in the 15th century by members from these families.

Until 1976 the town used arms with three bees designed in the 19th century based on the local inn sign..
