Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 17, 1935.

The arms were designed in 1935 and combine the arms of the Counts of the Mark (checquered bar) and those of the family Von der Recke. The Von der Recke ruled the districts of Unna and Kamen from more as 200 years as governors in the County of Mark.
