On January 2, 1941 Kröpelin received new arms that showed a golden griffin in a red field (for Pommern), holding a swastika in its right claw. These arms were abolished in 1945. Unfortunately I have no image of these. | On January 2, 1941 Kröpelin received new arms that showed a golden griffin in a red field (for Pommern), holding a swastika in its right claw. Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 10, 1858 and again with some slight changes (above right) on June 8, 1999.
The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, see below, dating from 1306. The arms are canting, showing a cripple (Krüppel), although the name is derived from a Slavic word, meaning the hoarse. The small shield shows the arms of the Lords of Rostock, who granted the city rights in 1240.
On January 2, 1941 Kröpelin received new arms that showed a golden griffin in a red field (for Pommern), holding a swastika in its right claw. These arms were abolished in 1945. Unfortunately I have no image of these.
