EHRANG

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : until 1969 Trier
Incorporated into: 1968 Ehrang-Pfalzel (1969 Trier)

Wappen von Ehrang/Arms (crest) of Ehrang
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

Ehrang received city rights in 1346 by Emperor Karl IV, and was a possession of the Archbishops of Trier until 1802. The arms were granted in 1952 and show in the lower part the cross of the State of Trier. The cross was the only symbol on the late 17th century seal of the city. The key was added in 1952 and is the symbol of St. Peter, patron saint of Trier and Ehrang. The key also symbolises that the town is the key to the Eifel mountains and the Kyll valley.

In the early 20th century the arms below were shown in the Kaffee Hag albums, without the key.
