Official blazon

Geteilt; oben die bayerischen Rauten, unten in Silber auf grünem Dreiberg ein golden bewehrter roter Dompfaff.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 14, 1402 and the original document still exists. The arms show in the upper part the arms of the Wittelsbach family, Dukes of Bayern. The lower part shows a canting Dompfaff (bullfinch). The oldest seal, dating from 1412 shows the arms, but in the lower part only the head of the finch. In the 17th century the whole finch was displayed, and the bird was looking right as in the present arms. In the 19th century the small mountain in the base was added, but the arms have not changed otherwise.
