Origin/meaning

The oldest known arms of Hilpertsau appear on the seal dating from the late 18th century. The arms show the letter P. Later, 19th century, seals also show only the letter P. The meaning or origin of this letter is not known.

Siegel von Hilpertsau

The municipal stamp shown in 1892

In 1900 the State Archives proposed new arms, as the letter P had, besides as village sign, no historical meaning. The new arms show the cross of Speyer, combined with the roses of the Counts of Eberstein. The village belonged to the Bishops of Speyer, but the Counts of Eberstein held the area in loan from the bishops.

As the arms are against the rule of tincture (silver on silver), the State Archives proposed in 1959 to reverse te colours of the cross. The municipality, however, wanted to continue the old arms.
